This is the end of the world as you know it...

So...you figured that you like...ya know girls. That's cool. It's widely accepted that gays are tres chic. I mean Portia and Ellen just got married and they have a full spread on the cover of People Magazine! Latifah and anonymous female companion are adopting. So you my dear are in style! Right....

Hmmm....well it's a little more difficult than that. You are a brown girl. A woman of color and being a les...shall I spell out the rest of the world is problematic. So this blog is a first aide kit, joke book and how to guide of how to make it through the life. We don't know everything, but we have heard everything. ENJOY!

Power Lesbians (A Gays)

Power Lesbians: Yes we understand that there are various examples of successful gay men. We meet and see them all around us. We even see the presence of 'power dykes' on TV or occasionally at a doctor's office. However, for black girls the presence of power lesbians has been strangely absent. When I lived in Atlanta during the mid 1990s, I remember seeing a cornucopia of lesbians on various economic levels. Regardless of their classification, they always remained polished. Today, there is a visible absence if these type of lesbians as individuals and particularly as couples. The lack of educated, cultured and career orientated women of color becomes problematic, not only for those single women who are seeking a woman of substance for a partner. But it becomes a problem for those baby lesbians coming up who only see doo rags and lucite stripper heels.

Bannanas

Unlike their newly plucked sisters, bananas are those women who have been in the scene for a while and have the experiences to show it. Think of a banana in a store. Some bananas are perfect, round, firm and yellow. Peel back the layer and they are flawless. Others are perfect on the outside, but have a few speckles on the inside, but you can smooth those out or cut them out. Then there are the rotten to the core bananas. Some lesbians are a mixture of these.Not stating that all women fall into this category, but from our experience, so many women in the life have been DAMAGED, that it is inevitable that you will find a spot or two on them. The advantages to dating a banana, she knows who she is, is out, grounded and has numerous friends. The disadvantages: she knows who she is, has to many friends and has years of female (and possibly) male drama on her side.
